Expansion joints are the most often ignored part of tile floors.
They are EXTREMELY important to the overall LONGEVITY of your tile floor.
Your floor absolutely NEEDS them!
Expansion joints can be a grout line in the tile pattern that is kept a SOFT JOINT in order to allow for small amounts of movement UNDER the tile and help prevent CRACKS from showing up on the tile floor.
