TILE INSPECTION · WOODSTOCK, GA

Why Is My Tile Cracking or Coming Loose?

A crack or a wobbly tile is a symptom, not the whole story. Finding out what caused it is the only way to fix it so it stays fixed.

What a tile inspection actually uncovers

Tile failure almost always starts below the surface. A shower that leaks around the base might have a failed membrane rather than a grout problem. Floor tile that sounds hollow when you tap it may have lost its bond to the substrate, not just aged out. A backsplash that keeps popping loose in the same corner often points to movement in the wall behind it, not bad adhesive. Hamilton Tile, LLC looks at the installation underneath, not just the visible damage on top.

Common inspection scenarios include bathroom floors and showers that see daily use, kitchen backsplashes showing separation or staining, and outdoor deck or patio tile that has lifted after seasonal temperature swings. Each one requires a different read on what went wrong and what the right next step actually is.

“If your repair bill is more than half the cost of a new system, replacement is almost always the smarter money.”

After more than 10 years working on residential tile in Woodstock and the surrounding north metro communities, Hamilton Tile, LLC has seen the same underlying problems repeat across different homes. The question homeowners care most about is usually straightforward: can this be repaired, or does it need to come out? An honest answer to that question up front saves time, money, and the frustration of watching a new installation develop the same failure because the root cause was never addressed.

Homeowners across Woodstock, Marietta, and neighboring communities invest in bathrooms and showers that hold up with minimal upkeep. Advocacy for those homeowners means giving an accurate picture of what is actually wrong before recommending any course of action, including replacement work that might not be necessary at all.

What Happens During a Tile Inspection

Call and Describe the Problem
Tell us where the tile issue is happening and what you are seeing. That first conversation helps focus the inspection on the right area.
On-Site Assessment
We examine the affected tile area in person, looking closely at grout, substrate, and installation details that point to the source of the failure.
Plain-Language Findings
We explain what we found in straightforward terms, so you understand what is causing the problem before any decisions are made.
Clear Next-Step Guidance
Based on the tile's condition, we walk you through whether targeted repair, full replacement, or a remodel is the most practical path forward.

Questions

Good to know before you book.

We usually complete a tile inspection in a single visit, and the time depends on the size of the area and how much damage or moisture testing is needed. A straightforward visual inspection may be relatively quick, while a detailed assessment of a shower, floor, or recurring leak concern can take longer. Hamilton Tile focuses on gathering enough information to explain what is happening and what should happen next, rather than rushing through the visit.
Hamilton Tile recommends scheduling an inspection as soon as you notice cracking, loose tiles, recurring grout failure, water staining, or a musty smell near tiled areas. We also suggest an inspection after a leak, renovation, or any movement in the subfloor, because hidden issues can spread fast if they are ignored. Even if the surface looks fine, a problem underneath can still be developing, especially in bathrooms and showers.
Hamilton Tile asks customers to make the inspected area easy to access, clear away personal items, and avoid covering problem spots so we can see the full surface. If possible, point out the exact tiles, grout lines, or leak symptoms that concern you, and share any history of water intrusion or prior repairs. That context helps us focus the inspection and can make the assessment more accurate.
At Hamilton Tile, a tile inspection checks for visible damage, loose or hollow-sounding tiles, cracked grout, failed caulk, moisture-related problems, and signs that the installation may be shifting. We also look for patterns that suggest the issue is cosmetic versus structural, because those lead to very different repairs. A good inspection helps identify the source of the problem instead of just covering it up, which is especially important in bathrooms and other wet areas.
Yes, a tile inspection can usually tell us whether the problem is localized and repairable or whether larger sections are failing. At Hamilton Tile, we look at tile condition, grout integrity, movement, and signs of underlying moisture or substrate damage before recommending a next step. In some cases, a small repair is enough. In others, repeated failure means the better long-term fix is partial or full replacement.

What Our Customers Say

“We trust and recommend Hamilton Tile.”

In our DIY home renovation days my wife and I tore out and replaced just about enough tile to resurface Texas. Okay... maybe Oklahoma. We know what demanding, precise, unforgiving labor this is. That's why at age 84 I wasn't about to start replacing the badly cracked porcelain in our four year old, 16-foot master bath with attached throne room. This was not just a matter of replacing some cracked tiles. We were sure to find trouble in the concrete slab under those tiles. We invited three contractors to assess and bid the job before choosing the one that knew the most about our potential problems and the available solutions to them. Jason and Ben demonstrated their knowledge, experience, and versatility in every phase of the week-long project, from the demolition and removal of the old floor while preserving and protecting the fragile surfaces abutting it, to assuring the integrity and stability of the slab, to installing an uncoupling membrane designed to reduce the transfer of stress factors from the slab to the beautiful new floor tiles they so artistically installed and finished. They kept me informed and discussed options throughout the many steps in the process... and didn't charge me any extra for my "help". We were impressed by Hamilton Tile's attention to detail in every aspect of the job and their care for every part of our home, from carpet protection to dust control to daily cleanup of the worksites. If you have a tiling project that needs and deserves absolutely top standards of professional planning and craftsman execution, we suggest you call the best we have ever seen on the job. We trust and recommend Hamilton Tile.

Finding Hamilton Tile was a God send. We are at the last couple weeks of our project. I had a bad experience with Keystone Remodeling. You can read it on their site. Here’s our progress so far with Jason and Ben. I like color and fun in our bathrooms.
